Can result in up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, and 15 years of probation.

Examples:  aarson, drug possession, extortion, robery, vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.


Third degree felonies
Can result in up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Examples:  grand theft, fraud, bribery, elder abuse, kidnapping, resisting arrest


Felonies can be crimes against people or property, and can be brought by local, state, or federal prosecutors.

State felonies are prosecuted in state courts by state prosecutors, while federal felonies are prosecuted in federal courts by the federal government.​
